UNITAID Communities Delegation: Call For Applications For Alternate Board Member

This is a voluntary position with no salary or payment. Travel and essential costs for UNITAID meetings are expected to be covered by the UNITAID secretariat.

About the UNITAID Communities delegation:
A delegation working to represent the voices of communities of people living with HIV, TB and Malaria on the UNITAID Executive Board. The geographic coverage of the delegation is global. The overall aim is to strive for maximize the impact of UNITAID for people in developing countries living with the three diseases.

- 1. Curriculum Vitae (CV) outlining your experience. Include: Name, contact information (email and telephone), age, organizational affiliation, communities served
- 2. Letter of motivation outlining your understanding of UNITAID and your vision for its future, your community linkages in terms of relevant experience, and the most significant capabilities you would bring to the group that address the specified criteria
- 3. A letter of reference (signed) or support from your own organization, and/or closest affiliated organization, agreeing to the additional travel and workload (1 page only);

Your application will be reviewed by a selection panel of current UNITAID communities board representatives and community activists who have been involved in supporting the community delegations of both the Global Fund and UNITAID boards. Full details of the selection panel and process will be disclosed when the new communities alternate board member is announced.
Criteria for selection
The Alternate Board member is an individual. However, institutional support is critical to carrying out the duties and ensuring meaningful community input.
The selection will consider the following criteria:
- A person living with HIV from the global south
- A great understanding of UNITAID
- Understanding of the scope of work of UNITAID and opportunities it presents, particularly as it relates to issues of people living with AIDS affected by TB and malaria in developing countries;
- Email, internet and phone access;
- Ability to work well in written and spoken English (additional languages will be valued);
- Ability and capacity to communicate and network effectively and broadly (must have functioning communication linkages in region, sub-region or country);
- Ability to adhere to processes that ensure transparency and accountability between the community support team and communities living with the diseases;
- Diplomatic and strategic political and negotiating skills
- Openness, willingness and ability to learn, and to take on issues across constituency groups.
- Commitment to put in time to review selected Board documents and providing input, before each UNITAID meeting (roughly 2-3 meetings per year), if selected.
- Assurance and ability to keep pre-board documents confidential.
- Willingness to adhere to the delegations’ key performance indicator
Length of term
Subject to positive performance reviews, the new alternate board member will serve two years as alternate and then assume the position of Board member for one year.
The length of terms and criteria of selection may be reviewed on the basis of delegation evaluations.
The successful applicant will also automatically become a member of the Communities Support Team and assist the Communities board member in supporting this group to provide input and analyse key UNITAID documents from a community perspective.
